Backpack Referral Code Not Working? Here's the Fix
Code rejected, “Add referral” field empty, or no discount after sign-up? Almost every case comes down to one of seven causes — and one rule matters more than any other: the code must be on your account before identity verification.

7 reasons a Backpack referral code doesn't work
A typo in the code
Referral codes have to match exactly. Type pepebrothers as one word, no spaces, lowercase — or use the copy button above so there's nothing to mistype.
The “Add referral” field was empty
Opening backpack.exchange/join/pepebrothers normally fills the field in. Ad-blockers, privacy browsers or in-app browsers (inside X, Instagram, Telegram) can drop it. Always look at the field before continuing, and type the code yourself if it's blank.
The code was added after KYC
This is the big one. Backpack says it can't add a referral to an account that completed KYC without a code. Once you're verified, the referral can't be attached retroactively.
The account already existed
Referral codes are for new sign-ups. An existing account — even an old, unused one — can't be linked to a new code. Don't open a second account to get around it: exchanges generally allow one account per person.
You signed up from an unsupported region
If Backpack doesn't serve your country or US state, you won't get through verification — and the referral never activates. In the US, check the list of states where Backpack is available.
The code gives no discount by design
A standard referral code earns its owner a commission but gives you nothing. A fee discount only exists when the code belongs to an approved affiliate who shares commission. Code pepebrothers does: 5% off trading fees.
You're looking at Equity Perps fees
Referral discounts and rebates don't apply to Equity Perps trading fees. Check your fees on regular spot or perpetual trades instead.
Can I add a Backpack referral code after signing up?
Before identity verification
You still have a chance. Check whether the “Add referral” option is available, add pepebrothers, and only then submit your ID. If you can't find the field, contact Backpack support before verifying.
After identity verification
No. Backpack's documentation is explicit that referrals can't be added retroactively for users who completed KYC without a code. Your account stays as it is.
Can you change a code once it's applied? Backpack's documentation doesn't describe any way to change or remove a referral, so pick the code before you sign up.
