How to Sign Up on Backpack Exchange
Opening a Backpack account takes about five minutes. Follow these six steps — and enter referral code pepebrothers at the start to get 5% off your trading fees.

Check that Backpack serves your location
Backpack isn't available everywhere. In the US it's licensed in 21 states plus DC and the USVI — check the Backpack US state list before you start.
Open the sign-up page with the referral code
Open backpack.exchange/join/pepebrothers. The code usually fills in automatically; if the “Add referral” field is empty, type pepebrothers. More on this in our Backpack referral code guide.
Create your account
Enter your email address and choose a strong, unique password — ideally generated by a password manager.
Verify your identity (KYC)
Upload a government ID and complete the verification. It unlocks deposits, trading and withdrawals. The referral code must already be on your account at this point — Backpack can't add it after KYC.
Enable two-factor authentication
Turn on 2FA right away and store your backup codes somewhere safe. See our Backpack security checklist.
Deposit and place your first trade
Deposit crypto (free apart from the network fee) and trade. Use limit orders to pay the lower maker fee — details in Backpack fees explained.

KYC is usually quick — often minutes — though it can take longer at peak times.

Do I need to deposit right away?
No. You can create and verify your account first, then deposit whenever you're ready.
Which countries are supported?
Backpack serves most regions but not all, and in the US only certain states. Check the US state list; Backpack will also confirm eligibility during verification.
